GIRLS RESULTS

The Mayde Creek Girls competed at the District 19-5A Cross Country Meet on Thursday, October 27 at Bear Creek Park. This concluded the 2011 Cross Country season for the girls. They competed hard against a very competitive field and brought back 7 personal records.

*Varsity: Junior Tiffany Messenger led the Varsity team, running the 3200-meter course in a personal record time of 11:38, placing 12th. She was only two spots away from qualifying for the Regional Meet. Sophomore Gisselle Gomez also had a spectacular performance placing 17th, recording a personal record time of 11.51. These two girls showed true determination and competed remarkably well. Sophomore Madelaine Savoie was the next Ram to cross the finish line with a time of 12:36, placing 33rd. In 43rd place was Sophomore Lesly Garza who ran a time of 13:02. Following behind her in 45th place was Junior Tabitha Dhodapkar with a time of 13:10. Rounding out the Varsity squad, placing 46th and 47th respectively, were Sophomores Alexis Flores and Shenaya Thomas. Alexis recorded a time of 13:13, while Shenaya crossed the line with a time of 13:35. Most of the girls’ times would have qualified them for Regionals in many other Districts; it just goes to show how tough our District really is. We are extremely proud of them and all of their effort!

*Junior Varsity: In the JV race, Freshman Olivia Johnston led the squad running a personal best time of 12:45! Her stellar performance earned her a 9th place medal. Olivia fought hard the entire duration of the race to ensure a top 10 performance. Behind her in 20th place was Sophomore Emily Lee, who ran a time of 13:30. Sophomore Nickie Schmitz was the next Ram to cross the line with a time of 14:19, good for a 35th place finish. Freshman Sarah Sharp came in next in 36th place, running a personal record time of 14:24. Rounding out the top 5 for the Rams was Junior Camila Barney with a PR time of 14:33 and a 38th place finish. Sophomore Angy Rojas was the 6th Ram to finish in 45th place and a personal best time of 15:35. The final Ram to cross the line was Tatiana Sanchez, who had a 46th place finish and a time of 15:39. These girls have improved tremendously since last year, and even since the beginning of this season. We look for them to keep working hard and to build on their improvements for next season.

*Open Division: We had 5 girls competing in the Open Division. Senior Andrea Moran led the way for the Rams with a personal best time of 14:47. The next Ram to finish was Sophomore Daniela Mejia, who ran a time of 16:00. Right behind her was Senior Pamela Cano and Freshman Jayla Blanke, running times of 16:33 and 16:39 respectively. Sophomore Ruby Uribe was the final Ram to cross the line.

The girls improved immensely this season, with many personal records being set. They worked hard, and we are looking forward to next year. We would like to thank all of you for your continued support! A special thanks to the parents, families, friends and faculty who attended the District Meet! The athletes really enjoyed seeing you all there!

BOYS RESULTS

The boys cross country team concluded its season on Thursday at the district meet. The team had one of the best seasons in recent years, but unfortunately did not qualify to Regionals as we had expected.

*Varsity: Senior Fidel Leon led the rams placing 4th with a time of 15:59 on the 5000 meter course. He has individually qualified for the regional meet to be held next Saturday at Atascosita High School and will run at 11:10 am. The next ram to cross the line was Senior Daniel Jones in 15th place with a time of 16:37. Sophomore Ben Durgin and Junior Kevin Arguello were next to cross in 25th and 32nd place. Senior Henri Rivera rounded out the top five in 35th place. Freshman Riley Burnside and Junior Josh Chavira rounded out the varsity squad in 40th and 52nd place. Our two seniors Daniel and Henri will be sorely missed. Both boys have ran thousands of miles and given their time and energy to this program. We will definitely be looking to a lot of the younger runners to step up next season.

*Junior Varsity: The JV team placed 5th as a team. The rams were led by sophomores Saeed Hashmi and Elijha Bermudez in 14th and 17th place with times of 18:19 and 18:30. Juniors Marvin Chavez and Victor Farias were next to finish in 20th and 26th place. The top five was rounded out by Shayan Ghani in 38th place. The JV squad was rounded out by Kenneth Gervais in 45th and Jesus Pizano in 48th place. These runners will be counted on next season to step up and help the varsity squad to return to the regional meet.

*Freshman: The freshman squad finished 6th as a team. The freshman were led by Farouq Lakhani in 4th place with a time of 10:47 over the 2 mile course. Following closelt behind were Ray Whitmire in 12th place with a time of 11:10 and Collin Wang in 25th with a time of 11:41. Andrew Gaston was next to cross in 34th place. The freshman team was rounded out by Marcos Garza and Joseph Acuna in 39th and 40th place. These freshman have come a long way this season and will be asked to step up on both the jv and varsity levels next season.

We want to thank everyone who has supported us this season and will continue to work hard in the upcoming season.

REGIONALS!  Fidel Leon will be back in action on Saturday Nov 5th, with the hope of returning to the state meet. He runs at 11:10am on at Atascosita.

EXCITING NEWS!  Fidel Leon was also chosen by Channel 2 as the Memorial Hermann Athlete of the Week! Congrats to Fidel! His episode will air during the 10pm news on Wednesday, November 2nd.
